Tax Reliefs and Deductions

As a foreigner, you are entitled to the same tax reliefs as Polish citizens. The Polish tax system offers various deductions that can significantly lower your tax liability or increase your refund.

How to File Your PIT Step-by-Step

Collect your PIT-11: Your employer is required to provide this document by the end of February. It lists your total earnings and the tax advances withheld.
Log in to e-Urząd Skarbowy: Use a Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany) or electronic banking.
Review "Twój e-PIT": The system automatically prepares your return. Verify that the data matches your PIT-11.
Add Reliefs: Enter information for child tax credits or any other applicable deductions.
Submit and Download UPO: The Official Receipt Confirmation (UPO) is your only proof of a correctly filed tax return.

No Internet Access? There Are Other Options!

If you are not comfortable using online systems, you can still file your taxes traditionally:

Paper Form: You can send it via registered mail through Poczta Polska (keep the mailing receipt!) or submit it in person at your local Tax Office.
Accounting Office: If your situation is complex (income from multiple sources or from abroad), consider hiring an accountant to prepare the return for you.

Can You Get Help at the Tax Office?

Tax officials are not required to fill out declarations for taxpayers, but they do provide general guidance. During the tax season (March–April), many offices hold "Open Days" where staff can provide instructions on how to use the Twój e-PIT system on-site.

Important! Incorrect filing or failure to file may result in heavy fines and complications with residency legalization (e.g., when applying for a residence card / Karta Pobytu).
